Learn how to use the food editor spreadsheet.
In Mealplana, you can edit foods as part of a recipe, meal preset, or meal plan.
You will normally use the nutrition search bar to add mew foods to a recipe/plan. Once a few foods are added, you can edit them further using the editor spreadsheet.
For instance, when you want to edit the ingredients of a recipe, you may see a spreadsheet like the one below.
In the spreadsheet, every row corresponds to a food item, like eggs, butter, bananas, etc.
You can click and edit this spreadsheet the same way you would interact with any other spreadsheet. You can type, copy/paste, right click for context menu options, and drag values around. Changes are saved automatically.
The columns in the spreadsheet are:
Name: the food name. This will be visible to clients. You can rename this to be more user-friendly, write the food name in another language, or make any relevant notes here.
Quantity: how many units of the food are included in your plan or recipe.
Portion label: the name of the portion that describes your food (e.g. cups, eggs, tbsp, teaspoons, grams)
Grams/portion: The exact number of grams included in a portion. This value is really important to make sure nutrition calculations are accurate.
How to enter portions
The three values, Quantity, Portion label, Grams/portion work together.
For example, the first entry in the table is 4 eggs (44 grams/portion). This means that there are a total of 4 eggs, and each egg weighs 44 grams. In total, this is 4x44 = 176 grams.
The second row is 220 grams of butter, where each gram weighs exactly 1 gram. This may read a bit funny, but when the quantities are presented to clients they will be simplified so that it reads naturally.
The fourth item is 0.5 teaspoon of Baking powder. Where each teaspoon is 4 grams. So this means that this recipe has 0.5 x 4 = 2 grams of baking powder.
If it makes it easier, you can first enter the portion label you want, (e.g. cups, grams, oz, ml), then enter how many grams are in a portion, and finally specify the quantity.
You can also click in the dropdown menu for Portion label and choose amongst common options. This will automatically fill in all three values.
Finally, you can type in either of the 3 values and create a new portion, and you can also change the units from grams to ounces in the settings.
You can check the Macronutrients tab or the Download tab when editing a recipe/meal plan to see if the amounts you have entered for your food are accurate and result in the amount of calories/nutrients you would expect.
